IROIRO CREATIONS offers hands-on Japanese cooking classes in Northern Michigan.
Classes are offered through local organizations and community venues and are designed to introduce Japanese food, cooking techniques, and culture in a fun and approachable way.
Upcoming Classes
Registration for Spring 2027 classes will open in early January 2027 through Northwestern Michigan College (NMC).
All classes will be held at the Oleson Center at Northwestern Michigan College.
Learn Together: Ramen & Gyoza
For Adult & Child Age 12+

1:00–4:00 PM
Work together to make two favorite Japanese comfort foods from scratch. Learn how to prepare ramen with flavorful broth, noodles, and toppings, then make homemade gyoza with crispy golden bottoms. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the culture behind these popular Japanese dishes.
Learn Together: Bento Box

Create a colorful Japanese bento box together while learning how to make onigiri, tamagoyaki, bacon-wrapped asparagus, miso-glazed salmon and tofu, and daifuku mochi with sweet azuki bean paste. You’ll also learn how Japanese bento balances color, texture, flavor, and presentation.
Learn Together: Sushi Rolls
For Adult & Child Age 12+

1:00–4:00 PM
Learn how to make several styles of sushi rolls together, including traditional rolls, California rolls, and Temaki-zushi hand rolls. Practice preparing sushi rice, selecting ingredients, rolling, and presenting your sushi beautifully. Each pair will also take home a bamboo rolling mat so you can continue making sushi at home.
